Iam new to Androids technology. Currently we are using Samsung mobile PC's
(UMPC) to collect data from the field running windows XP mobile and MS
Access database. My bosses however asked me to find out about android
tablets of which i don't have any idea.
My question is, can Ms office run on android platform? if not what can be
used as a database during data collection?..and is it compatible with
windows?
Opendatakit takes a document-centered approach to data collection on the
phone. You create blank survey forms (in a variant of XForms). Filled-out
forms are all stored as XML documents on the phone. These are then
uploaded to a laptop or server for processing.
ODK Briefcase can read these filled-out forms and generate .csv files which
could be imported into Excel or Access.
ODK Aggregate can run ontop of a SQL database (currently MySQL or
PostgreSQL). You could import data from that database into Access.
Depending upon your needs, you might find restructuring how you process the
data and moving off Access might be more efficient.
I doubt Microsoft would ever port their apps to a platform that competes
with Windows Mobile. There does appear to be a "Kingsoft Office" product
that may be based off the OpenOffice.org code -- http://www.kingsoftstore.com/ (never tried it).
