Ask AI doesn't open on Firefox with uBlock Origin

Hi,

Today I have noticed Ask AI doesn’t open at all open on my browser (Firefox with the uBlock Origin extension). I’m talking about the AI chat window that pops up after pressing the button on the left side bar at https://docs.getodk.org/

After disabling the extension, it works.

Specs of my current computer:

  • Windows 11
  • Firefox 144.0.2 (64-bit)
  • uBlock Origin 1.67.0 (October 22, 2025)

I’m pretty sure it has always worked before (with the extension enabled) but I could be wrong. I am using a different computer than I use normally but in both I have Firefox and uBlock Origin.

Since this is a pretty popular extension (10 million users on Firefox alone), you might want to look into this situation and implement a direct workaround or work with uBlock Origin team if necessary, though the issue might actually reside in one of the filters used by the extension. Anyway, uBlock Origin team is pretty responsive in Reddit and Github.

For anyone out there using Firefox and the extension, please access Ask AI and report back.

I’ve checked on a couple of computers, and it’s working fine for me.

Could you check the browser’s console and see if there’s an error there?

And then could you try doing a hard reload (ctrl+shift+R) of the page and see if the problem goes away?

I havent gone back to the computer I was using that day (Windows). Today i’m on my regular computer (macOS) and Ask AI opens fine. As I said before, I have Firefox and uBlock on both. But I might have slightly different configurations, I can’t remember and I would have to manually check. My suspicion is the filters.

@alxndrsn the test you ran, was with uBlock Origin, correct?

For me it also works with Firefox and UBO. Only https://static.cloudflareinsights.com/beacon.min.js is blocked (via, apparently, “Peter Lowe’s Ad and tracking server list”).

Open UBO’s logging window and load the docs page on the aberrant machine, it may yield more insights.
