Re the questions if it's possible to automatically name an image with a previous answer (e.g. name the file based on the sample number) - is this now possible? I realise this thread is 10 years old 
Currently, no. Your best option is to do the renaming as part of your analysis or reporting step.
ODK picture naming is the feature request that was created a few years back.
