Barcode data is not seen

Hi,

I'm new to ODK and learning by creating sample forms. I have created a
sample form with barcode scanning and it works good and i can see the value
of barcode from ODK aggregate. when i tried to publish them to fusion table
the barcode value is turned blank. Also I couldn't export the form data to
csv or google spreadsheet, but aggregate is showing 'Not yet created'.
there were no other error notification.

Appreciate if someone can help me on this two issues.

Regards,
Madhav

The barcode should publish through OK. Do simple barcodes like UPC symbols
publish OK?

w.r.t. Google Spreadsheet or file export, we just identified a bug in the
latest ODK Aggregate (the one with the entity-key fix) that is causing
these actions to fail. We'll have a fix soon.

Keep in mind that the XLSForm tool provided on opendatakit.org is slightly
different from the XLSForm tool provided on formhub.

Hi,

I have tried it again after doing some changes in the design but as per
formhub format. it is working well. But i have around 8000 rows of data in
the choices sheet which takes tooooo much time to load a form or it crashes
ODK Collect most of the time. is there any workaround to handle such a
large number of choice list ??.

Tks..
Madhav.

RE: barcodes not publishing to Fusion Tables or Spreadsheets

The use of the same field name ( 'cooler_no1', 'cooler_no2' ) for several
fields is the issue.
These are only distinguished by their containing groups, so you have:

sectionB/sectionC/sectionD1/cooler_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_no3

When they get inserted into fusion tables or spreadsheets, we strip off the
containing groups.
We then traverse the form in the order of these data values (D1/1, D2/1,
D2/2, D3/1, D3/2, D3/3), and insert them into a list of name-value pairs
that is sent to Google Fusion Tables or Spreadsheets.

So if you have data entered for D1/1 = 'a' and D2/2 = 'b', that data will
be overwritten by the data provided for sectionD3.
In this case, the data for sectionD3 is 'no data' (an empty string).

And so the resulting published data into Fusion Tables and Spreadsheets is
an empty string.

The fix is to rename your fields so that they are unique without reference
to their enclosing groups.

e.g.,
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD1/cooler_d1_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_d2_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_d2_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no3

Why not use the full path as the name in the name/value pairs? Is

overwritten by the data provided for sectionD3.
In this case, the data for sectionD3 is 'no data' (an empty string).

And so the resulting published data into Fusion Tables and Spreadsheets is
an empty string.

The fix is to rename your fields so that they are unique without reference
to their enclosing groups.

e.g.,
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD1/cooler_d1_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_d2_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_d2_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no3

Search down for 'cascading Selects' on this page:

There is a link to an example XLS file showing how to define cascading

w.r.t. Google Spreadsheet or file export, we just identified a bug in
the latest ODK Aggregate (the one with the entity-key fix) that is causing
these actions to fail. We'll have a fix soon.

Interestingly, ODK Briefcase does that, but it was shortened for those
publishers.

I don't remember the motivation / rationale.

RE: barcodes not publishing to Fusion Tables or Spreadsheets

The use of the same field name ( 'cooler_no1', 'cooler_no2' ) for several
fields is the issue.
These are only distinguished by their containing groups, so you have:

sectionB/sectionC/sectionD1/cooler_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_no3

When they get inserted into fusion tables or spreadsheets, we strip off
the
containing groups.
We then traverse the form in the order of these data values (D1/1, D2/1,
D2/2, D3/1, D3/2, D3/3), and insert them into a list of name-value pairs
that is sent to Google Fusion Tables or Spreadsheets.

So if you have data entered for D1/1 = 'a' and D2/2 = 'b', that data
will be
overwritten by the data provided for sectionD3.
In this case, the data for sectionD3 is 'no data' (an empty string).

And so the resulting published data into Fusion Tables and Spreadsheets
is
an empty string.

The fix is to rename your fields so that they are unique without
reference
to their enclosing groups.

e.g.,
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD1/cooler_d1_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_d2_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD2/cooler_d2_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no1
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no2
sectionB/sectionC/sectionD3/cooler_d3_no3

Hi Madhav,

Nafundi has an unsupported feature in Collect 1.4 that drastically
improves the performance of very large itemsets. It's unsupported
because we haven't finished the changes to XLSForm that makes it easy
for normal folks to enable. If you are comfortable editing XML, email
me off list at yanokwa@nafundi.com and I'll send you the general idea.

Hi,

I have tried it again after doing some changes in the design but as per
formhub format. it is working well. But i have around 8000 rows of data in
the choices sheet which takes tooooo much time to load a form or it crashes
ODK Collect most of the time. is there any workaround to handle such a large
number of choice list ??.

Tks..
Madhav.

RE: Cascading selects (countries and cities)

Keep in mind that the XLSForm tool provided on opendatakit.org is slightly
different from the XLSForm tool provided on formhub.

Search down for 'cascading Selects' on this page:
http://opendatakit.org/help/form-design/xlsform/

There is a link to an example XLS file showing how to define cascading
selects for the opendatakit.org variant of XLSForm.
