Branch tool ODK Build

Hi -

I'm trying to build my first module and can't figure out how to use the
"branch" button on the bottom of the page. All other buttons seem to work.
Is this by design? Is there a better approach to creating branches to
questions? Also, is there a user guide for the Build tool? I wasn't able
to find one.

Thanks in advance,

Aaron

hi aaron,

sorry about the delay, we've been busy fixing things before our next release.

branching doesn't yet work in build. build is a tool designed to
handle the common case for form design and we had to cut branching for
this version. adding it is very high on the todo list and we are
working on it. i agree that the button is confusing and should disable
it entirely until branching is done. i've filed the bug at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=269 so please
track it there.

in the meanwhile, i ask that you wait week or so. we will be releasing
a new tool which will allow you to design forms (with branching...and
more) in excel. if you are on the mailing list or read the blog, it'll
be posted to both places, so stay tuned.

if you can't wait, and you are technically inclined, you can use these
links below to learn how to build forms manually.

hope that helps,

Hi Yaw -

Thanks a lot for the response and helpful explanation. Makes total sense and
waiting for the new xls tool is no problem at all. I'll check back in and
track the bug you filed.

Thanks again,
Aaron

Hi - I'm new to BUILD and using it to design some survey tools atm. It seems like the Branch feature still doesn't work. Is this the case or is there an update I've missed.

I'm a bit nervous about xls but I guess that's what I'm going to need to do....

Thanks

Hi Katynj,

It's unlikely that Build will get branching UI. I'd recommend you use
XLSForm. https://xlsform.org is a great place to get started.
