Briefcase Bounce

It's great to see the new versions of these tools, I'm having an issue with
ODK Briefcase 1.0 Beta 2.21 which I hope we can sort out.

I have ODK Aggregate 1.0.1 installed and running at
https://koboserve.appspot.com.

Running briefcase locally, I can use it to connect to my Aggregate and get
the forms that are available from the server. I am including a screen to
show the success so far.

However, when I try and move data the other direction, using Briefcase to
push from my local ODK Briefcase directory to the server, I am using the
same connection information and getting an error.

The error I am seeing is this:

starting URL: https://koboserve.appspot.com/upload unexpected exception:
the username of password may be incorrect or the url:
https://koboserve.appspot.com/upload is not Aggregate 1.0 - status code on
Head request:401

So, is there something wrong with my settings or another reason why I can
move data down but not up?

Updated the ticket --You need to be a Form Manager to upload data with
Briefcase. You only need to be a Data Viewer to download data.

This is as intended.

Thanks for the update. I am sure that I am a form manager. Just let me
check on the server. Yes. I am logging in to the server with an ID that has
Form Manager permissions. Could it be something else?

This also needs to be an ODK account, not a Google account.

SOLVED: that was it, Mitch. I hit upon it before you just before you
mentioned it, created and ODK account, and see a successful upload going on
right now. Thanks for the details.

Since you're kicking the tires, and had a question about the
meta-is-complete flag, you'll note that the metadata fields present in
Aggregate 1.0 are added as attributes to the top-level tag of the
submission XML when submissions are downloaded from Aggregate 1.0 to the
local system. Aggregate 0.9.x only adds the instanceID and submissionDate.

Similarly, if you transfer an ODK Collect submission into Briefcase
directly, then upload it from Briefcase into an Aggregate 1.0 instance,
Briefcase will modify Briefcase's copy of the submission to add attributes
to its top-level tag for the instanceID and submissionDate that were issued
to it by Aggregate (the other metadata fields aren't added).

This allows Aggregate 1.0 to identify submissions that are being
re-submitted to the server and to de-dupe them even if they don't specify
an OpenRosa instanceID (Aggregate 1.0 will use that instanceID as the
instanceID of the submission if it is present).

In this way, within Briefcase, any submitted submission or downloaded
submission will then retain and reuse the exact same instanceID in
perpetuity, across migrations or transfers among Aggregate instances.
