I've plugged my android device into my desktop (Windows 7) and it's
connected as a MTP device rather than the default USB storage. It
automatically does that and it's more painful to switch to USB mode.
I copied the complete odk folder off the phone onto my local drive but
after specifying the folder in Briefcase (after setting the "pull data
from" dropdown menu) nothing happens. The Pull button is greyed out and I'm
not sure what should happen next.
It's worked when the device is connected as a mounted USB storage but
that's a bunch of extra clicks I would like to avoid.
Copy the entire /odk directory to your computer (e.g., to
C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\folderODK\odk )
Run Briefcase
Select "Custom path to ODK Directory" in the "Pull data from:" drop-down.
Then Choose the above directory (e.g.,
C:\Users\Administrator\Documents\folderODK\odk ) with the chooser.
You should see the list of forms available within that directory.

You likely did not choose the forms you want to transfer by checking the
checkbox in the "Selected" column (or you can click on the "Select All"
button).
Until you check at least one, the Pull button will not be enabled.

If it isn't showing the list of forms, note that you have to copy the
entire /odk directory over -- the /odk/forms directory and the
/odk/instances directory.
It needs both.

And the directory you Choose is the directory that corresponds to the /odk
directory on the phone -- it is not the directory containing that directory.

But its not listing any forms. Ive checked the odk folder and the forms
folder has the form. Also the instances folder has the saved xml files.
Maybe its a permission/admin rights thing!

I haven't seen this behavior. If you can see those files from a file
browser, Briefcase should be able to see them as well (e.g., the chooser
you use to select the /odk folder should also allow you to navigate inside
that folder and see the forms and instances folders).

Windows 7 64-bit
Java 7 (just updated, to be safe)
I create this folder "D:\ODKData\backup_20120523" and dropped the entire
odk folder from the phone (contains 3 subfolders-forms, instances &
metadata with files within each one)
I go to ODK Briefcase, change the option to "Custom Path to ODK Directory",
use the Choose button to navigate to the folder above and then select the
odk folder.
I know its doing something, as if I try picking a folder above or below the
odf folder it pops up an error message.
Something's amiss....
