Bug report, saved form disappear when device crash

Just a quick bug, two times this week ODK client crash when submitting
the form : i don't know why for the moment... But my problem is that
data form selected to send, (wich crash, severals), have disappear to
/odk/instances on the device.
So we lost all the day collect.
So now i force my team to archive /odk/intances on a computer before
sending the data.

The form could contain photo.. but we have done a week of collect with
any problem on 4 devices, so I'm optimistic!

Android 4.4.3 tablette Nexus 2014.
ODK clients install are version before the 19may2014
and odk virtualbox server, last version too lol

Do you know this problem, "form saved" disappear on client crash?
If you have an idea, i will be happy to verify it

sorry for my poor english

and a great Thanks for sharing this collect program. Without you help we
will still working on a paper sheet!

Sorry you are having problems.

By default, if ODK Collect crashes, it saves a checkpoint so you can
relaunch the form and try saving again. ODK Collect also never deletes
data, even on send. It just hides the form from the enumerator's list
of finalized forms.

Try to reproduce the problem with adb logcat
(https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/CollectTroubleshooting) so
you can capture a log. That log will help the core team track down the
issue.

Once you have a log, please file an issue at
https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/list. Be sure to include
the version number of Collect (e.g., 1.4.3 rev 1040) and Aggregate
(e.g., 1.4.3) you are using. Also, note if this happens with only a
specific form or a specific device.

The more information you provide that can help the core team reproduce
the issue, the better.

Thanks,

Yaw

I have also observed a similar problem on Collect 1043 revision.

It happened in 2 different instances:

1 - When saving a form being filled
2 - When sending a form to the server

In all cases, no data have been lost. When saving a form, collect crashed (black screen with "Unfortunately, Collect has stopped working"), but if you open again and open the form you were saving all data have been saved.

WHen sending a form, a similar thing happens, but again the forms DO get send and all the data is available on the server (in our case Form Hub), without any difference from when there is or no a crash.

It doesn't not happen all the time, I would say on average once every 12 or 15 upload/saving maybe.

I haven't been able to notice so far what exactly causes the crash. I have tried re-filling from scratch a form with the exact same answers that I had put on a form that DID crash, but it didn't reproduce the problem.

Does the issue happen on all your devices? Or just one? Have you tried
reformatting that one device?

Gabriel,

Please file a new issue at
https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues. It might be the same
problem, but it might not be. Only way to find that out is if you file
a detailed issue.
