Just been experimenting with Cascading Selects, and have the example
working well, but have been trying to group 3 choices together on one
screen. In this case Family, Genus and Species (as a field-list), at
present it does not like it (selection does a little wonky). Does anyone
know if cascading select will work as the same time on the one screen
(using group and field-list), anyone have an example I can borrow?

No, I do not expect it to work.
When field-list displays were introduced, we decided to not apply
constraints across questions shown on that one page. So if Q1 makes a
selection that Q2 must then use to produce a filtered list of choices, then
you MUST NOT place Q1 and Q2 within the same field-list group.
