What high-level problem are you trying to solve?
Make guidance notes available to the user without having to change a project setting.
Any ideas on how ODK could help you solve it?
Change the default behaviour to Yes - collapsed
Upload any helpful links, sketches, and videos.
As discussed in the insiders call on 6th March, where @LN mentioned the use of guidance notes, this is a followup thread to suggest a change to the default behaviour of Collect.
Currently the default setting for 'Show guidance for questions' is 'No'.
Updating the default to 'Yes - collapsed' saves having to change it to make guidance available for those that use it, and will have no negative effect on those that don't use guidance notes, as there is nothing to show.
Then a setting change is still needed for those that want guidance always shown - which can be invasive of screen real estate as guidance is usually more verbose than hints, so seems like a poorer default option. And currently they already have to change from 'No' so there is no additional burden.
The scenario where guidance notes exist but it is desired that they are not able to be seen and so needs to be changed to 'No' seems far less common and would affect fewer people having to now change it from 'Yes - collapsed' to 'No' than vice versa?
