Completing setup of ODK Aggregate - username / password

Hi,

I'm a new user trying to get set up to test forms.

After following the Aggregate installation instructions, including

  • setup of an App Engine instance and
  • downloading Aggregate
  • opening Aggregate though the Virtual Box interface according to to
    the Aggregate read-me file

I used the URL that was generated by the Virtual Box boot screen and
successfully logged in to Aggregate (using the read-me-file user name and
password)

I then wanted to try loading a test form so I made short form in ODK Build
and used the "Publish to Aggregate" option.

ODK Build asked for my Aggregate Instance URL so I entered the Application
Identifier. I granted the App Engine access to ODK. That generated a
message that the form had been successfully sent.

When I click on the link in the "success message" to visit the form in my
Aggregate instance, Aggregate opens and asked for my username and password.
The username and password provided in the Aggregate Read-me file do not
work at this point. Going back to the originally opened Aggregate doesn't
work. Trying to open Aggregate in a new window using the URL based on my
Application Identifier gets me again to a login screen where the default
username and password aren't recognized.

Maybe I've missed a simple step

Thanks for any ideas to help me on my way past this point.

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

Sorry you are having problems. You only need one copy of Aggregate --
either the Google App Engine (GAE) version or the virtual machine (VM)
in VirtualBox. Seems like the GAE version has been installed, so let's
focus on that and ignore everything about the VM for now.

When you installed the GAE version, it asked for an admin username and
password (something that works with an Google Apps account). When you
granted App Engine access to ODK, it used that same username and
password to help authenticate the account. If that worked OK you
should be able to go to http://yourappid.appspot.com/ and use the
sign in with Google button.

What part of that process is not working?

Hi Yaw,

Thanks for your reply.

Okay -- I'm forgetting the VM stuff.

When I try to log into the GAE version I get the error message "Error:
Authentication Failed: account not recognized."

I've verified that my GAE account exists. I can even go to the admin screen
and get to the first Aggregate screen via the link in the "Current Version"
column (screen shot below).

But, entering my Google account name and password still only returns the
above error message.

I suspect this is an uppercase/lowercase issue. ODK Aggregate assumes that
the e-mail address is exactly the same letters as reported by Google.

Please be sure that when you run the installer, you specify exactly
Hugh@wcog.org ( and not hugh@wcog.org ).

Yaw

design, implementation support, and user training for ODK.

Hi,

I'm a new user trying to get set up to test forms.

After following the Aggregate installation instructions, including

setup of an App Engine instance and
downloading Aggregate
opening Aggregate though the Virtual Box interface according to to
the
Aggregate read-me file

I used the URL that was generated by the Virtual Box boot screen and
successfully logged in to Aggregate (using the read-me-file user
name and
password)

I then wanted to try loading a test form so I made short form in ODK
Build
and used the "Publish to Aggregate" option.

ODK Build asked for my Aggregate Instance URL so I entered the
Application
Identifier. I granted the App Engine access to ODK. That generated a
message
that the form had been successfully sent.

When I click on the link in the "success message" to visit the form
in my
Aggregate instance, Aggregate opens and asked for my username and
password.
The username and password provided in the Aggregate Read-me file do
not work
at this point. Going back to the originally opened Aggregate doesn't
work.
Trying to open Aggregate in a new window using the URL based on my
Application Identifier gets me again to a login screen where the
default
username and password aren't recognized.

Maybe I've missed a simple step

Thanks for any ideas to help me on my way past this point.

Hugh
