Dissapearing files

Dear all,

A partner of ours says that he has uploaded several files (filled forms)
from ODK collect to our ODK Aggregate (working with Tomcat on Amazone).
However when I look in our ODK Aggregate, 1 file is missing. He says that
he did uploaded this file and that this file is not on his tablet anymore.
I cannot verify this because he is working in another continent as I am.
Has anyone experienced a similar problem? And what might be the cause? Is
it in any case possible? I thought/read that the power of ODK is that the
software is 'redundant', meaning that filled in forms only are removed from
your tablet as soon as they are correctly & entirely uploaded to ODK
Aggregate. In case for example a wifi signal is being interrupted during
upload, the form will still be on your tablet. Anyway, I want to verify
your experiences and if this can happen. If not possible, then I have to
find out what happened of course. Logically, this is something that I
definitely want to prevent in the future...

Thanks for the feedback!

Kind regards,

Eddy

Eddy,

Submissions are always stored on the device even when sent, so you
have not lost any data. If you have large media files in your
submissions, that's where things might be going wrong.

In ODK Aggregate, go into Form Management, then click on Submission
Admin. Do see any incomplete submissions? If so, see
https://groups.google.com/d/msg/opendatakit/ecJQt-t0Q0c/FcBGMrxGHqAJ
for solutions.

Dear Yaw,

Thanks for your answer and clarification. Indeed, I found the missing file
at Form Management >> Submission Admin. Great that is is solved! Indeed,
they may have used a large photo file that may have caused the problem. We
have already downsized the pixelsize with the tablet settings.

To clarify things: Once a form is submitted, they disappear from the list
of "Edit Saved Forms". If submitted correctly, you cannot edit or re-submit
the form anymore. The only thing you can do is erase it. That sound logic
(to prevent that you re-submit it and data becomes corrupted). But in the
case a form has not been submitted correctly: Is it then also removed from
the "Edit Saved Forms"? What I understand from my colleage is that he
cannot find the form anywhere in his ODK Collect and is not able to
re-submit it. If this is true, I assume that he has to go into the
directory structure of ODK Collect to retrieve the form manually...?

Anyway, happy with this feedback. Thanks!

Kind regards, Eddy

I have found this functionality very useful but was wandering if there is a way to do a bulk import of these forms with media perhaps to briefcase and then upload it to aggregate somehow?

Bashir: Yes, you can pull the forms from Collect to Briefcase and send them
to Aggregate using Briefcase. Make sure the forms are saved and finalized
and have instanceIDs first.

Eddy: I don't think forms that have not been submitted correctly (e.g. have
missing media) should be hidden from the user. If that is happening, then
it's likely a bug. In Send Finalized form, press the Menu button, then
Change View to show Sent and Unsent Forms. You should now be able to
re-send sent forms.

Hi Yaw,

It was not a bug... I simply never noticed this option and I didn't
explained it neither to my colleague.... So I guess this will work too on
his tablet. Everything is solved now. Good to now some additional features
of ODK... Many thanks!

Regards, Eddy
