Domain Name

Hello everyone,

I'm wondering if it is possible to use a domain name in place of the URL that points to my Aggregate server.
I attempted using a free domain name for trials sake where I picked a unique domain (with a fixed extension as is the case with the free domain name registration sites) but it wouldn't work.

My reason for doing this is because our Aggregate server is hosted by a PaaS subscriber and I need a contingency in the event that that service were ever to go down. Therefore, I figured that a URL redirection service as offered by such sites in the form of free domains can help me - where I would configure Collect with the domain name that points to my server, and in the event that it ever goes down, I could simply change the URL to point it elsewhere.

Has anyone ever attempted something like this? Why wont it work for me? The free domain doesn't register the URL to my server as valid.

Any ideas?

Thanks!

ramadhan

This will work. You must specify the domain name as your hostname when you
run the ODK Aggregate installer.

The generated configuration will then always refer to the server as that
domain name (e.g., when providing download URLs to ODK Collect and when
providing URLs to the images/media attachments of a submission).
