Error: Multiple matching form definitions exist

Hello,

We are running surveys using Formhub and the ODK collect app on Samsung
Galaxy Tablets.

We can save and exist a form mid-survey but sometimes when we try to
re-enter it we first see a message 'Unsaved changes recovered from
savepoint!" than an error box that says “Multiple matching form definitions
exist" and are unable to get back into the survey. The only option is to
delete the survey and start over.
I first posted my question in the Formhub group but it was suggested I give
a try here.

Please let me know if anyone has suggestions on how to correct for this.

Thanks!
Burgen

The multiple-matching-form-definitions error is reporting that ODK Collect
thinks there are 2 versions of the same form on your device.

The easiest fix is to:

(1) ensure that all filled-in forms have been Finalized and transmitted or
copied off of the device.
i.e., that all survey data is safely off the device.
(2) delete the /sdcard/odk/.cache and /sdcard/odk/metadata directories.
You may need to forcibly stop ODK Collect via the Settings / Applications /
Manage Applications / ODK Collect screen in order to do this.
(3) start ODK Collect.

This will resolve the issue.

The most likely cause is an upgrade from Android 4.1.2 to 4.2 or higher.
The directory path to the odk directory was renamed across that operating
system revision.
