Error publishing form from ODK build to ODK Aggregate (1.0.1)

Hallo!

I tried to publish a created form from http://build.opendatakit.org to
my instance of ODK Aggregate on Version 1.0.1 previously it was on th
0.9 series and it worked without problems but since the update I
always get "Internal Server Error" from the ODK Build page (http://
build.opendatakit.org/aggregate/post).
What could I do to get this working again?

What worked is to export the form in ODK Build as XML and upload it
manually to ODK Aggregate.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Charlie

charlie,

i think clint (dev for odk build) hasn't had time to update the code
to work with aggregate 1.0. i've filed the issue at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=422.

follow our progress there...

hi Yaw,

I have had the same problem and I have been following progress on this
thread. Any new update? Or instructions of how I can do it manually on
my google App engine.

Ezekiel

Hello all,

I'm just beginning a project using ODK. I installed ODK Aggregate v1.0.6 Production on Google App Engine. For what it's worth, I'm currently experiencing this same problem ("Internal Service Error" from the ODK Build page (http://build.opendatakit.org/aggregate/post when publishing to aggregate from http://build.opendatakit.org/). If there's anything I can do to help troubleshoot, let me know. If I figure anything else out, I'll follow up.

Best,
Matthew

Invite me to be a developer on your appengine site and also add me as Site
Admin, and I will take a look:

http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/AppEngineTroubleshooting

Note that publishing only works in Aggregate 1.0.6 or higher. It does not
work on any 1.0.x prior to that release.
The version is shown on the Site Admin / Permissions tab.

Hmm this should be working if your Aggregate is installed on GAE as it
was fixed in Aggregate 1.0.4 (originally worked in 0.9.x series and
was broken when we did the switch to Aggregate 1.0, it now should work
with recent releases).

I filed an issue here:
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=559

In the mean time, you can download the XForm from Build and upload the
XForm to Aggregate. If you are getting an error on the Xform upload
itself please attach the form to the issue (takes attachments) and the
error message.

Cheers,
Waylon

Which reminds me... it is likely that you did not specify a value for your
select-one and multiple-choice questions.

After downloading your form, you can run ODK Validate (available from our
downloads page) to check that the form is well-formed and identify any
issues with it.

Hello Mitch

My problem is similar to the problem Matthew had. I am a 1st timer newbie and unable to export from ODK Build to my App. The URL is correct and I am using the latest versions of all software that I only started using three days ago. I am in a pinch as I have already missed a deadline and would appreciate if I could invite you to have a look at my data to see what is the problem? Perhaps I could mail you the XML and you can see if there is an error somewere? I keep getting Internal Server Error no matter what.

Please let me know how this is repaired?

Thank you

Sass

It looks like pamfodk has an old, no-longer-standard, site authentication
mechanism.

Go to https://appengine.google.com/
Choose your site
Click on "Application Settings" on the left sidebar

On this page, on the upper right side, under Basics, there is a
Authentication
Options
:

On an install that works, this shows as "Google Accounts API"

On pamfodk, it shows as "Google Apps"

If you are allowed, please change it and try publishing from build. Since
ODK Aggregate does its own user authentication *except *when using Oauth
1.0 tokens, this is why everything works except the publishing from build.

Hi Mitch,

I don't believe that I am able to change that setting from Google Apps
to Google Accounts API. Not sure why. So Google Apps uses an older
authentication mechanism and that's why it's broken?

Yes. You can try opening a "Production Issue" against AppEngine, requesting
them to change your site to use the Google Accounts API. But don't get
your hopes up - my experience is that they never look at these tickets and
then close them 3 months later.

http://code.google.com/p/googleappengine/issues/list

You should see the "Google Accounts API" choice being used on any newer
AppEngine instance that you create. If you are between surveys, you might
want to just switch to a new instance.

It looks like pamfodk has an old, no-longer-standard, site authentication
mechanism.

Go to https://appengine.google.com/
Choose your site
Click on "Application Settings" on the left sidebar

On this page, on the upper right side, under Basics, there is a
Authentication Options:

On an install that works, this shows as "Google Accounts API"

On pamfodk, it shows as "Google Apps"

If you are allowed, please change it and try publishing from build.
Since
ODK Aggregate does its own user authentication except when using Oauth
1.0
tokens, this is why everything works except the publishing from build.

Hey all,

I appreciate the timely responses!

@ Mitch: I've added you as a site admin at http://pamfodk.appspot.com/
.
The form is valid with 1 warning:

Warning: 1 Unrecognized attributes found in Element [data] and will
be
ignored: [id] Location:

Problem found at nodeset: /html/head/model/instance/data

@ Waylon: The manual download and upload is working perfectly, thanks!

Best,
Matthew

Which reminds me... it is likely that you did not specify a value for
your
select-one and multiple-choice questions.

After downloading your form, you can run ODK Validate (available from
our
downloads page) to check that the form is well-formed and identify
any
issues with it.

Hmm this should be working if your Aggregate is installed on GAE as
it
was fixed in Aggregate 1.0.4 (originally worked in 0.9.x series and
was broken when we did the switch to Aggregate 1.0, it now should
work
with recent releases).

I filed an issue here:
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=559

In the mean time, you can download the XForm from Build and upload
the
XForm to Aggregate. If you are getting an error on the Xform upload
itself please attach the form to the issue (takes attachments) and
the
error message.

Cheers,
Waylon

Hello all,

I'm just beginning a project using ODK. I installed ODK Aggregate

currently
experiencing this same problem ("Internal Service Error" from the
ODK
Build
page (http://build.opendatakit.org/aggregate/postwhen publishing
to
aggregate fromhttp://build.opendatakit.org/). If there's
anything I

charlie,

i think clint (dev for odk build) hasn't had time to update the

Hallo!

I tried to publish a created form
fromhttp://build.opendatakit.orgto
my instance of ODK Aggregate on Version 1.0.1 previously it
was
on th
0.9 series and it worked without problems but since the
update I
always get "Internal Server Error" from the ODK Build page
(http://
build.opendatakit.org/aggregate/post).
What could I do to get this working again?

What worked is to export the form in ODK Build as XML and
upload
it
manually to ODK Aggregate.

Any ideas?
Thanks
Charlie
