Hi Mitch!
Thanks for your responses. I followed your instructions, but it still
isn't working. I've reinstalled the app, replaced the cron.xml file before
launching the script, and created a new AppEngine ID.
I don't have a chance to type in my password before this error pops up:

Great.
One of the glitches in the install script is if you get into this
failed-deployment state, you need to be able to "rollback" the changes,
and, at least on Windows, if you close the HTA browser, you are unable to
do that easily.

Hey Mitch,
Following those steps worked for me - the old instance did not work, I
had to create a new app id on the AppEngine side of things and then the
install went smoothly.
Thanks!

If this server doesn't have any data on it, it is perhaps easiest to
create a new application id, and try a clean install to that. At the end of
the install, uncheck the launch install script checkbox (this is on the
last screen of the install wizard).
Then change the cron.xml to the one I attached, and then launch the
uploadAggregateToAppEngine.app (if on a Mac) by double-clicking it.

Be sure you only have of the hta files opened.
And you will need to choose "Rollback" to undo the state of the server
before you can run the script again.

I replaced the file- still doesn't seem to be working.
The terminal box automatically closes and the readme opens before I
can even see the error.

Interesting -- it appears that Google has changed something in the
parser that processes the cron.xml file.
Please replace the cron.xml nested within the "ODK Aggregate"
directory created by the installer with the attached file; cron.xml is
found here:
ODK Aggregate\ODKAggregate\WEB-INF\cron.xml
Then re-run the installer by double-clicking on the
ODK Aggregate\uploadAggregateToAppEngine.hta
file.

Hi Mitch,
Thanks for your response. I've already tried doing Step 2, and I
also don't have 2-factor authentication activated on my account.
Could this be a firewall issue? I am working from the Kingdom of
Tonga.

Google has tighted its security around use of its gmail accounts.
As a result, there is an extra step during the install process.
