Please advice. Why I am getting this error. My email address and password
match.

you sould try with this:

(i dont know if it is the same problem, but i have enabled two step
validation thru google authenticator. i created an app password, used as
the password for the email, and then i installed ODK aggregate)

The email/password used to setup App Engine should be the same as what
you put in the installer and should be the same as what you put when
you run the uploader. I believe it's also case sensitive. Re-run the
installer and make sure the email address is correct.

Make sure you don't have 2 step verification set up in your gmail account.

I have the same problem. odk installation process tell to convert backends
to module. why did it do so? I dont know how to convert backends to module.
i also tried their instruction as mentioned in
https://developers.google.com/appengine/docs/java/modules/converting but i
know nothing about this. Why it is necessary to enable two step
authentication?. Is it mandatory? Is it not possible to install ODK
aggregate with the existing password. I dont have two step verification
system enabled. what can I do? However I also tried with two step
verification but the problem was same. even when i was creating app
specific password it did not show my application rather than other devices.
what is the solution?

I will really appreciate if anyone could help me in this regard.

Does the upload script complete with Success (green) or Failure (red)?

Look elsewhere for the problem.

The warning about deprecated features is not an error; it is warning the
developers (e.g., me), that this feature is no longer the "correct" way of
doing things.

If you have two-factor authentication on your e-mail, and did not set up an
application-specific password, that is the cause of the failure.

i know nothing about this. Why it is necessary to enable two step
authentication?. Is it mandatory? Is it not possible to install ODK
aggregate with the existing password. I dont have two step verification
system enabled. what can I do? However I also tried with two step
verification but the problem was same. even when i was creating app
specific password it did not show my application rather than other devices.
what is the solution?

I will really appreciate if anyone could help me in this regard.

Does the upload script complete with Success (green) or Failure (red)?

Look elsewhere for the problem.

The warning about deprecated features is not an error; it is warning the developers (e.g., me), that this feature is no longer the "correct" way of doing things.

Dear Mitch

I am facing the same "Backend Modules error".
2-step verification setup in gmail is disabled.
I created new gmail account and new application in Google App Engine.
But when I sign -in to the gmail account to create a application specific password, I can't see any of my
apps listed.
I am using ODK Aggregate 1.4.4
Upload script failed (red).
I am using the same gmail username and password for installation process and while uploading the script.
I tried re-running the ODK installer multiple times choosing different location for ODK Aggregate folder each time but it doesn't seem to be working!

I will be obliged if you could help me.

There is something else going wrong.
Once you run the installer, and produce the ODK Aggregate directory, you
can re-run the upload script by double-clicking on the
uploadAggregateToAppEngine.hta file within the ODK Aggregate directory
that the installer created. You do not need to re-run the installer each
time in order to access and run this upload script.

Application IDs, are created here https://appengine.google.com/

And are tied to a specific gmail account. Whatever account you created them
under, that is the account you use when you upload ODK Aggregate to that
application ID (appspot) instance.

The account used to create the application ID is shown in the upper right
corner of https://appengine.google.com/

If that account uses two-factor authentication, then you will need to
create an application-specific password to use when you run the upload
script. Go here: https://security.google.com/settings/security/apppasswords
and in the "Select App" drop-down, choose the "Other (custom name)"
application option, enter your appspot server name (e.g., for an
Application ID of "opendatakit", I would enter opendatakit.appspot.com) and
click "Generate" When you run the upload script, use your e-mail and this
code.

If that account does not use two-factor authentication, then you DO NOT
NEED an application-specific password to run the upload script.

Look elsewhere for the problem.

The warning about deprecated features is not an error; it is warning the
developers (e.g., me), that this feature is no longer the "correct" way of
doing things.

Fascinating.

I have updated the ODK install instructions.

Added Step 2 at:

https://opendatakit.org/use/aggregate/#Installing_an_App_Engine_Instance

Hopefully the "gcloud auth login" functionality will find its way into the
appcfg command. Once that happens, the installer can be changed to use the
'secure' mechanism.
