Force Close when saving a picture

We had our first field test using ODK Collect application today. We
only had one problem with collection

One of the user had a new DROID3 phone running ver. 2.3.4. ODK
Collect V1.1.5 This was the only user out of 7 (all other running
different Android devices and OS) When he would start a form
everything was OK until he would take a picture press save and then
ODK would force close. If he would not take a picture everything was
AOK.

Andy

Tell him to change the resolution of the camera. Smallest setting, such as
WQVGA and smaller work.

I have had the occasional crash when pulling in media, photos, videos, or
audio. One solution that has worked is installing a different audio or image
capture software. The crash seems to be the result of some kind of
incompatibility with ODK and the default software.

I think it was at his lowest setting, but will check again to make
sure

Is there any way to have ODK resize the picutre takens....so that you
do not have to change the settings on the camera. We found that with
some of the new phones the lowest resolution was 2MP. Those are big
pictures to send over the air.

depending on the camera app your phone ships with, you can sometimes
set the resolution inside the app. that said, there is currently no
easy way we can externally set the file size of the images when we
launch the camera.

there is a bug (and a patch) at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=308 to resize
images in collect, but it probably won't ship until we figure out how
to make it work on lower end phones (both memory and os limitations).

as always, if collect is crashing, please do file a bug at
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/list so we can track it
down. if you don't know how to get a stack trace, we have a quick how
to at http://opendatakit.org/use/faqs/.

Thanks all...I did not have time during the live exercise to look at
error codes...etc...

Does anyone have any recommendations for a camera app that allows you
to set the resolution low?

OK how do I go about adding the patch above? Remember no developer
here, but learning fast.

check out https://github.com/mistaguy/snapit. i haven't used it, but
it was designed to work with odk. if it doesn't have a low rez mode, i
bet he can easily add it.

in eclipse, right click the project, go to team and apply patch. try
http://www.cs.trincoll.edu/hfoss/wiki/Using_Eclipse_to_Build_and_Apply_a_Patch
if you need a bit more help.

oh, and i should note that this patch only works with the latest
versions of collect (so not 1.1.5).
