Headphone volume way too quiet

Hey all,
I'm running a survey with audio prompts for participants (it's
self-completed). The plan is to have participants use headphones to hear the
questions in their local language, as needed. The audio prompt is working
great, but when headphones are connected, the volume is too quiet to hear
anything.

I'm using a Huawei 8110. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is it a device
issue? (I've read on some forums that Android headphone volume is
notoriously low...why?) Is it something that can be fixed/improved on the
back-end of ODK?

Appreciate any advice.
Zak

Hey Zak,
ODK doesn't have any control over the volume. This sounds like a device
issue.

The two things I would try are:

  1. After the headphones are plugged in, make sure you turn the volume up.
Some phones keep track of two different volume levels for if the
headphones are plugged in or not (so if you turn it up before plugging the
headphones in, it will return to a lower level once you plug them in).

or

  1. Use a program like Audacity to increase the volume of the sound files
    themselves.
