Hiding characters on ODK collect

Hi,

Is it possible to hide characters entered on ODK collect on some questions ?And that if we open an existing form, characters are replaced by '*'. I'd like to enter pin codes, but i don't want them to be readable if someone else opens the same form or when going back to the same question.

Thanks for your help,

Stephane

No.

This would give you a false sense of security. Any question asked in the
survey is stored unencrypted on your sdcard until you finalize the form, at
which time it may optionally be encrypted, but is typically not. Anyone
with physical access to your phone could access the files and read out a
PIN code if we were to ask for it, whether or not we presented the data
with ***'s.

To do this safely, you need to create an external app that securely manages
the PIN values and returns a status value back to ODK Collect that can be
used within the survey to determine whether the user answered the PIN
challenge correctly. This keeps the PIN value out of the set of collected
data, and ensures it is never written in plaintext at any time.
