Integrating apps for biodiversity monitoring

Hi all,

I use GetODK for landuse sector. A very important topic in this sector is measuring impact on biodiversity. This is however extremely difficult to monitor without expert knowledge, which is often not available within organizations. Now, there are very interesting apps out there, using AI to identify plants, insects and birds for example: ObsIdentify (for identifying plants, insects, trees using photos) and Merlin Bird ID (for identifying birds based on sound). I think these apps could really help projects in data collection for biodiversity. Is there a possibility to use these apps within GetODK and then also integrate the results from those apps in the form submissions? Internet signal would likely be a limitation to use those AI apps, but still, I think these could be an interesting feature in mobile data collection.

This is a really interesting idea!

In my days of biodiversity conservation I designed the forms to take photos (with a length reference) together with the enumerators' species ID so we could have a second opinion from an expert later on.

This is of course entirely unglamorous as it was built before the age of AI and in a bespoke data warehouse I built with workflows for QA (before Central offered QA).
