Integrating map and waypoint navigation into ODK Collect

Hello,

We have a requirement for a GPS navigation and mapping functionality to
integrate with the ODK Collect forms. We know that ODK can capture a GPS
coordinate, but we need the following:

  • The user navigates to a predetermined GPS coordinate
  • When he/she clicks on the target waypoint, ODK opens to start collecting
data on forms we have configured (includes GPS capture, photo etc.)
  • When he/she presses save the waypoint in the map view changes from red to
green (indicating the site has been inspected)
  • Needs to access offline base maps (people working in remote areas with no
    internet coverage)
  • Ideally needs to load it's own maps like a georeferenced topographic
map in ECW or JPEG2000 format

Has anyone had experience in integrating GPS navigation functionality with
ODK?

One alternative we are looking at is middleware scripting to get a
dedicated GPS navigation app to communicate with ODK and vice versa. Has
anyone had success doing this.

By the way we are willing to talk to developers if there are any who want
to contribute their experience and get involved.

Kind regards
Nathan

Nathan,

Don't know of anyone who has done it, but I bet it'd be reasonably
straightforward to use SDKs from Open Street Map, Mapbox, or ESRI to
do.
