I'm interested in making references to past repeated survey responses using
XSL2Form. It seem like this isn't possible so I can either:

I'm likely to make a preprocessor for XLSForm to at least manage a limited
number of repeated loop levels and references. Has anyone already done
this? Also, is there a practical limit on the size of the survey?

The performance of the survey depends on what device you are running
it on. It's not just the phone running out of memory you have to worry
about. Depending on how the survey is designed, loading the survey and
swiping between questions can be slow and miserable to use. Best
practice is to test on the devices you'll be using so you can judge
for yourself what is acceptable.
