Memory span app integrated to surveyCto

Hi everyone,

I just recently learned about surveyCTO and ODK. I am learning on how to
create forms and there are some complicated questions that I am trying to
figure out. The help option in the website really helped a lot but there is
one thing that I can't find, and I hope I can get some help from here. In
the middle of the survey , the enumerators have to use the memory span app
that can be downloaded from google play. Does anyone know how to write this
in the form?

Thanks!

Ann

Hi Ann,

There is the ability to call to external apps from a form field, but the
app itself has to be written to support being called via an "external
intent." Basically, the app needs to be callable from other apps, and needs
to return a string or numeric value that can then be stored in the form
field itself. The Zxing barcode-scanning app, the camera app, the
audio-recorder app, and others all support being called from other apps in
this way, which is why apps like Collect can easily support barcodes,
pictures, audio recordings, etc.

The Memory Span app may or may not support this capability. We'll write to
the developer to check and post back if he/she/they write back. If the app
doesn't support it, then there is likely no way to integrate it -- since
there is no way to get it to return a value to store in the form field.
(You could try to convince the app developer, however, to add the
capability by paying for the development...)

Best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thank you for responding about my inquiry. I am still exploring surveyCto
while creating our survey forms. It's been very challenging for a novice
like me and I'll test this today and see if this works. Thanks!

Best,

Ann

Hi Ann,

It's been 12 days and "Brain Games 2011" has still not responded to our
inquiry about their support for intents. Unless you have some way of
contacting them, I'm afraid that we may be out of luck. Hopefully you have
a back-up system for manually recording scores into your surveys.

Best,

Chris
