I work for JESUS Film Harvest Partners (non-profit organization- www.jfhp.org) and we currently recieve (through a manual process text,
numeric, audio, video, and photos from 328 teams serving around the
world. I am exploring the possibilities of using unlocked smart phones
with multiple form based applications to gather 'real-time'
information -
Activity Report - Date, Location (alpha,numeric), Evangelistic
contacts (numeric), Decisions for Christ (numeric), and Discipleship
(numeric).
Preaching Point Report - Name of a new church start (alpha/numeric),
District name (alpha/numeric), Name of a new church start leader
(alpha), Number of people attending church (numeric), and story (alpha/
numeric).
Needs Report - Equipments requests (alpha/numeric), Prayer requests
(alpha/numeric).
In addition, I need a way to collect/store/retrieve data (example -
google docs) for further editing, translation, and import/export to
access database. Automation of time and location stamping through GPS-
enabled functionality. Presentation of data through reporting and
visual delivery of content through web-based mapping.
I know that is a lot to consider but I reviewed your ODK development
software and thought you may have already laid the groundwork for what
we are trying to accomplish.
I need to confess I have a very limited technical background and we do
not have an IT staff for support.
odk does much of what you describe and we have designed the tools such
that you don't need much technical expertise. it also seems like
you've thought through some of the forms you want.
as a first step, i'd encourage you to join the implementers list at http://groups.google.com/group/opendatakit-implementers. start by
designing your forms with http://build.opendatakit.org and see how far
you get. when you run into problems, email the implementers list and i
bet some of the folks in the community will help you along.
