No peer certificate while accessing

We are running ODK for a project in Ghana.
Up to now (6 months in) all the phones have been running well.
We haven't changed any of our settings.

Now 1 of 4 teams reports being unable to send any data.
They get a "Generic Exception" message

  • we have tried multiple different connections etc and confident this is not the issue.
  • we have force closed and retried - no change
  • we have tried sending just 1 form - no difference, this is a pan data error

So then i tried getting them to download a new form as i know that should also create a secure server connection. When they try this they get the following:

No peer certificate while accessing https://cloud.mhealthservices.org:8443/links/formList

  • Username, password, URL are all good.
  • Other 3 teams still able to send data
  • Nothing changed at the server end

Suggestions welcomed!

Can you access the server from the browser on the device?

It sounds like the root certificates on your devices have changed.

Under your device's Settings / Privacy (or Personal) - Security /
Credential Storage / Certificate Management

(slightly different on different Android OSes).

Look at "Trusted Credentials"

and compare the list on the devices with the problems with the list on the
devices that work.

Something is likely to be different.

Also, make sure the devices have the correct date and time. Time
differences between servers and devices can screw up SSL connections.

Yes -- the date and time needs to be roughly-correct. If it is more than 5
minutes off, the connection will generally fail.

Thanks Yaw -- that's the obvious thing to check

Interesting.
I think that might be it - will check and feedback.
