ODK aggregate v1.4.4 displays ? instead of khmer characters

Hello to all

We have a survey where one of the question's choices is from an external
utf-8 csv file. The content of this file are names in khmer script. All is
well in ODK collect and was able to submit to ODK aggregate server (v1.4.4)
on Amazon EC2. The problem is when I inspect the submitted data, I see
'?????' instead of the khmer script.

Can anyone help me to solve this problem?

Many thanks in advance

Arnel

How are you looking at the data?

On the web page? Or did you download a file? Or use Briefcase.

See https://opendatakit.org/help/form-design/workarounds/#csv_output

Good morning
I viewed the submissions through ODK aggregate web interface and through
Google fusion table. I have not done any export yet.

TIA

Does the web browser use a typeface that has the necessary glyphs?
I.e., if you browse here:

Do you see the proper khmer characters, or do you see ???s

Not all typefaces have all glyphs.
E.g., for arabic text, Chrome must be configured to use a non-default font.

On Chrome, this is done via Settings / Web Content / Customize Fonts...

You might need to set the default font to be 'Noto Serif Khmer', 'Khmer
UI', or 'Noto Sans Khmer'

Because ODK Aggregate can handle any language, we do not attempt to specify
a font when we render the web page. If the browser does not have its
default font set to one that shows the glyphs, you will see ???s.

Thanks Mitch for your help

I am using chrome and with out modifying the default font setting, it is
able to render the khmer glyphs at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Khmer_(Unicode_block). Opening ODK Aggregate
web interface, the characters are displayed as ?????. Thus I followed your
suggestion to modify the font setting. Windows comes with a preinstalled
khmer UI font which I used to replace the standard font, serif font,
san-serif font, and fixed width font. I also change the encoding from
western to unicode. Well the result is the same. I get ???? instead of
khmer characters. I will try with other browser and see
