ODK and RedCap

Hello everyone,

I am considering to use application for survey and epidemiology study, and
I found ODK and Redcap are the candidates to be used in this project, but I
am wondering the advantage and weakness between ODK and Redcap. Could
anyone give me an overview or suggestion to choose one of them?
Thanks in advance.

ODK Collect is designed for disconnected data collection (out of contact
with cellular, wifi and internet connections).

Enketo is an ODK-compatible solution for web-based data collection.

The data collected from ODK Collect can be published to a server (ODK
Aggregate or others), or manually gathered via ODK Briefcase.

Additionally, data submitted to ODK Aggregate can be pulled to your local
computer using ODK Briefcase. This enables you to maintain a backup of your
collected dataset.

Once gathered in one location, it can be exported to CSV files using ODK
Briefcase or published to external servers using ODK Aggregate.

If configured to use encrypted forms, each survey submission is encrypted
on the device and can only be decrypted by ODK Briefcase when exporting the
data as a CSV file (and the publishing options are not useful).

Data analysis is expected to be done on some other system.

It's going to be hard to summarize the differences between platforms
without knowing more about your project. My recommendation is to try
an end-to-end test (design a 10 question survey, collect the data, do
your analysis) and see which one you prefer. There are also demo
videos on both project websites that you should watch.

Note that there are a couple of organizational differences between the
two that may or may not be important to you. You can only use REDCap,
if you are an institutional partner of the project. ODK has no such
restriction. RedCap is free, but it's not open source. ODK is free and
open source.
