ODK Central recommended update schedule?

We're running ODK Central on an AWS EC2 instance. We were running version 1.1 and just updated to version 1.3. During the upgrade we found that the database backup from v1.1 was not compatible with v1.3. We were able to import to v1.3 by first importing our v1.1 backup to a temporary v1.2 system and then importing the dump from v1.2 to v1.3. We'd like to follow your best practices about keeping our Central server up to date and not have to do something like this in the future.

Do you recommend we update with each minor version?
Do you have a schedule for when you plan to release new minor versions of ODK Central?
Do you have any other recommendations about keeping our Central server updated?

Thanks in advance for your advice!

Cheers,
Rob

v1.1 to v1.3 should work, but there seems to be a bug in the migrations that we are investigating right now.

In general, we try to release a major release every quarter and tend to ship a handful of minor bug fixes for a few weeks after each major release.

We recommend being on the latest versions and that's the version we use on ODK Cloud. We also regularly roll out security updates for the operating system and the like.

That said, ODK Cloud has continuous backups and all sorts of systems in place to catch and fix problems if they occur. If you don't have those systems in place, upgrading one month after a major release seems like a reasonable approach.

We announce new releases in the Releases category, See How to receive notifications about a category or topic for how to be emailed when a release is published.).

Your Central home page also has a feed of the latest versions.
