ODK Collect v1.4.9 is now available for download on the opendatakit.org
site and will be rolling out on Google Play over the next day.

This has several significant additions:

  • XPath 3.1 math functions (exp, log, sin, cos, etc.)
  • new "select one with search" widget appearance.
  • download and publish into Google Drive / Sheets
  • updated translations; support for Markdown in labels and hints
  • SNI support (untested)

Release notes:

··· =============== ODK Collect 1.4.9 will work with ODK Aggregate 1.4.8 *provided you do not use the XPath 3.1 math functions* (this is the significant change in the 1.x pipeline across these two versions).

If you wish to use the math functions, you will need the 1.4.9 versions of
ODK Briefcase, ODK FormUploader and ODK Validate (the XLSForm conversion
page has already been updated to be compatible with 1.4.9).

ODK Aggregate 1.4.9 will be released once an ODK 2.0 issue that has been
blocking it has been resolved.

Hi Mitch,
We are doing data collection next month. Would you recommend to install
the new version in tablets or staying the old version is fine? I would
prefer the safest way.
Thanks,

Thanks Mitch and team for constantly improving on ODK, I was checking on
some of the improved futures on this version and want clarification on '

  • add direct publishing into Google Sheets and downloading of forms from
Google Drive (contributed by Google Earth Outreach / Nafundi )'

Does this mean you can now send directly from the ODK Collect on tablet to
google sheet or it's the same way where you have to go through the ODK
Aggregate server.

Thanks so much for the new version, I am in the middle of a survey and once
done, I will surely upgrade.

I definitely recommend using the newer version.

The new version has an important date/time data corruption fix. This fix is
also in ODK Aggregate 1.4.8. Upgrade to both.

w.r.t. this install issue, this appears to be an issue with Google Play
Services (I have a support call out to them).

The software seems to install fine on a 4.0.3 and 5.x and 6.x devices.

I have encountered the same Google Play error on 2 tablets so far --
Android 4.3 and 4.4.4 devices.

The immediate work-around is to manually install it using the adb tool.
Otherwise, Google will hopefully figure things out.

not say 5.0.1 or 5.0.2)? Are you installing a fresh copy of ODK Collect or
upgrading? Do you have any ODK forks or derivatives on your device?

I just checked my Aggregate from https://.appspot.com using
admin login, we have 1.4.4 version. I don't know what I need to do to
update the Aggregate or is it necessary to update it for the new version of
the Collect? I am little nervous about updating Aggregate without a good
instruction at this moment because our previous survey data collected in
Aggregated and we are about to start another run of the follow up data
collection. To update the Collect , do I just reinstall ODK Collect from
PlayStore on the tablets then it will be automatically 1.4.9, am I
correct?
Thanks,

Hi Srou,

For me to help, I need answers to the questions I asked.

What devices (make/model) do you have?
Are you installing a fresh copy of ODK Collect or upgrading?
Do you have any ODK forks or derivatives on your device?

  • new "select one with search" widget appearance.
  • download and publish into Google Drive / Sheets
  • updated translations; support for Markdown in labels and hints
  • SNI support (untested)

ODK Collect 1.4.9 will work with ODK Aggregate 1.4.8 provided you do
not use the XPath 3.1 math functions
(this is the significant change
in the 1.x pipeline across these two versions).

If you wish to use the math functions, you will need the 1.4.9 versions
of ODK Briefcase, ODK FormUploader and ODK Validate (the XLSForm conversion
page has already been updated to be compatible with 1.4.9).

ODK Aggregate 1.4.9 will be released once an ODK 2.0 issue that has
been blocking it has been resolved.

I definitely recommend using the newer version.

The new version has an important date/time data corruption fix. This fix
is also in ODK Aggregate 1.4.8.

Hi Andrew,

Not yet. The Google Drive team recently changed how XML documents are
represented and that has broken how ODK Collect lists forms. I've
pushed a fix to Collect 1.4.10 and I'm waiting until that release
comes out before publishing the docs.

Thanks,

Yaw
