ODK Desktop Widget and/or Home Screen functionality?

Greetings all,
I've been a user of ODK for about 8 months and have recommended it to a
number of partners for data collection use in international development
work. At the recent SanitationHackathon event, I joined a Hacking Autism
project that was looking to extend ODK for use by teachers in special
education classrooms. You can view the full problem statement here:
http://www.sanitationhackathon.org/open-data-kit-smart-clicker

The use case is that a teacher working with autistic kids often needs to
collect basic anonymous information on how often a child performs a task
or complies with an instruction. However, they don't have the time to go
into ODK to complete a full form.

The proposed solution is a form home screen widget (not just a short
cut) or a lock screen widget that would all the teacher to enter
information into a form as quickly as possible.

I've volunteered to work on this project, because I think it good cause,
and have created a fork of the ODK codebase here:
https://github.com/paradoxxjm/smartclicker. The widgets themselves could
be useful to a number of other areas. I've done a couple android apps in
the past, and hope this project could help me to get back into Android
development.

I'm writing to confirm that this functionality does not already exist in
ODK. Also, do you think these features would be useful?

Looking forward to hearing from everyone.

Best,
Matthew

Hey Matthew,

I don't think this functionality exists elsewhere and I can imagine it
being useful in a number of scenarios. Regardless, get it working well
for your initial users and then worry about broad applicability after.

Not a problem. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't replicating any
functionality that already existed in ODK already.

This would be an excellent addition. It would be best if it could be
done as an "appearance" property of a group of questions on a single
screen. Then an ODK shortcut could be setup to launch this special
appearance single-group form with all the widgets on a single screen.
