[ODK Developers] Compass bearing widget - how to compile into ODK Collect?

Oops -- our documentation is not up-to-date.

There is already a bearing widget in ODK Collect.

Use a decimal widget with a "bearing" appearance.

I have downloaded Android studio an I suppose I have to download ODK
Collect binaries. Is it just a matter of includ the downloaded code and
recompile then?

I would grateful if someone can point me in the right direction so I can
add my own widgets.
