There is a metadata folder for ODK collect. Are there any ways to
customize and extract ODK metadata from forms/instances for
preservation metadata in (FDGC) Federal Graphic Data Committee -
(CSDGM) Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata Format?

the only things in the metadata folder are databases that track some
high level file information (dates saved, md5 of file, etc) about
forms and instances. there is no useful form content metadata (author,
description, etc) in those databases.
depending on the form you design, you can include hidden nodes that
could contain that sort of metadata. you can do whatever want with
that hidden node data (either on the phone or on the server) because
it will show up in the instance xml.
