ODK, Salesforce and PurcForm Integration

Hi There,
At Applab (applab.org), we have integrated ODK with PurcForm and
Salesforce. The goal is providing an end-to-end process to create a
survey, assign it to field workers, gather the data submitted from
field, evaluate/tag the data, measure the progress of each field
worker toward their target and provide real-time feedback to them.

We have launched a version which is under review. I thought it might
be a good idea to share it with the community at this phase.

The code we have developed is fully open source and our goal is
submitting the code to the group. Hopefully it would be adopted as an
extension to ODK to be used in other projects and supported in future.
The only piece a project will need is obtaining a salesforce license
to get it working with the code. The final version of salesforce code
will be available as an apex code to be downloaded by anyone
interested.

Please let me know what is the process for it and where is the best
place to start.

Thanks,
Shayan

Shayan,

This sounds like a really interesting project! I have a few
questions:

What is the specific use case this setup was designed for?
Is there any way to try out/see a demo without buying a license? I
don't know how feasible it is to get a trial of salesforce... you
hinted the answer is "no" at this time.
Is this mainly designed for Monitoring and Evaluation work? Or for
marketing research? Both? I found a little overview on your AppLab
site, but would like to know more...

Hi,

Do you intend to release this code to the public? I am very keen to build a
connector from ODK to Salesforce and am willing to pay for it(we are an
NGO).

At the moment we use EpiSurveyor/Magpi which works well but as we grow ODK
is more sustainable for us.

I've been playing with ODK to Drupal - then in Drupal we map the forms to
the fields but no luck so far.

Would welcome a chat offline to see if we can work together on this.

Thanks
Dan

also, is there an external repo that we can also take a look at the
code to get a sense of what has been done?

I have linked Aggregate to Mirth Integration engine which gives you a lot of flexibility in channeling data.
Happy to share this ... it's in a VM

Hi Mark,

I'd love to see the VM not heard of Mirth Integration. Whats the VM run on?

Thanks
Dan

Mirth HL7 Interface engine (mirthcorp.com) was originally designed to
transmit health messages in HL7 format but also supports a wide variety of
other message formats. It can read databases, transform data and send it to
multiple recipients in multiple formats. It's very versatile. Free open
source.
I started with Yaw's VirtualBox VM installation of ODK Aggregate and added
Mirth to the server and set up a link where Mirth can read the ODK
Aggregate database and send out messages.
Should run on anything that runs VirtualBox. (Linux, Windows, MacOSX)
The VM is large (about 800 Meg) but I'll post it as soon as I figure out
where.
