ODK server Status 500 Servlet execution threw an exception and Enketo loading error (gateway timeout)

Dear Yaw,

I've been trying to upload a new form for data collection on the ODK
Aggregate server but I get a 'HTTP Status 500 Servlet execution threw an
exception' error. I've since tried to back-track and pick up any faults on
my part (e.g. in the original xls form), and noticed that when I convert
from xls to xml (which is successful) and then try to preview in Enketo I
get a 'Gateway Timeout' loading error. I'm not sure if the errors are
related? Any suggestions or advice would be helpful. Thank you.

Lizzy

Hi Lizzy,

Is your Aggregate server on Google App Engine (the URL will end in
appspot.com) or on some other server (e.g., Tomcat)? Also, what
version of ODK Aggregate are you using?

My guess is that you are running on a Tomcat install that is broken in
some way. If that guess is correct, the person who did the Aggregate
install (maybe you?) should look at the Tomcat logs to get a sense of
what is going wrong.

Dear Yaw,

Thank you very much for your message. I did not install Aggregate so my
knowledge is a bit limited. I suspect I'll have to ask someone from tech
support to get it sorted.

Yes, I believe we're using Tomcat 6.0. I don't have access to the
individual instances right now so it's hard to check which ODK Aggregate
version we're using. But the last time I did a successful upload was in
November 2016 (in case that's useful).

Best,
Lizzy

Just following up on the version query, when I open the xml of one of our
last submissions it says "xml = version 1.0"

Hi Lizzy,

That's not the version information we need.

We need the version of ODK Aggregate. You can find this in when you
log in under Site Admin, then Preferences. I've attached a screenshot.

Please have your tech team look at the Tomcat 6 logs. It'll give them
an idea what is going wrong.
