ODK TAB Election - 2022-04-11

It's time for an ODK Technical Advisory Board (@TAB) election! If you want to help lead ODK, read on.

TAB overview

The TAB represents the broader ODK community. It provides feedback to Get ODK Inc (the company that makes ODK) on roadmap decisions, proposed features, new specifications, and more. See the ODK governance overview for more on the role the TAB plays.

TAB membership is determined through a public election process that is typically held yearly. TAB elections are a great opportunity for interested candidates, regardless of technical ability, to step forward and influence the direction of ODK tools and technologies (e.g., Collect, Central, Enketo, XLSForms) and help our community continue to have a positive impact on the world.

As far as commitment, there is a 2-year term for members and the minimum time commitment is 2-3 hours per month for meetings. An ideal member would also continuously participate in the community to contextualize the decisions the board has to make.

This current election

This election cycle, @Ukang_a_Dickson, @aurdipas, @Xiphware, and @danbjoseph have the choice to run for another term. @tomsmyth stepped down from the TAB last year and will not be running. That said, we do not have a fixed size for the TAB and exact number of members going forward will be dependent on the number of good applicants we have, so please apply!

The TAB will solicit applications from now through April 25th with the form below. On April 26th, we will post the text of those applications on this topic so the community can ask public questions of the applicants until May 3rd. The TAB will then discuss internally for a week, and on May 12th, announce the new members.

So to summarize the timeline:

  • Apr 11, 2022 - Apr 25, 2022: Call for applications
  • Apr 26, 2022 - May 3, 2022: Call for public questions
  • May 4, 2022 - May 11, 2022: Private TAB discussion
  • May 12, 2022: Results announced

Interested in applying?

If you are interested in applying to the TAB, the roles and responsibilities are described in the TAB governance and TAB standard operating procedures. Please read over those documents and apply through the form below.

I'd like to welcome Mathieu (@mathieubossaert), Hélène (@Thalie), Kevin (@cooperka), and Janna (@janna) to the @TAB. We're looking forward to having you help the core @Team and the rest of the TAB lead ODK.

I'd also like to take this moment to thank Dickson (@Ukang_a_Dickson) and Tom (@tomsmyth) for their contributions to ODK over the years. They decided not to run this election cycle and we'll miss their leadership!
