I've noticed activity on the ODK Tables code recently, can anyone give an
update on the current status of this project please?

It is still pre-alpha. We have 4 undergrads and 1 grad student working on
the code.
This is now our finals week -- you are seeing a flurry of end-of-term
check-ins.
We have a few more features to add; then it will become more of a
stabilization and fit-and-finish effort to get it to alpha.
