Pass multiple data into/from the external intent

Hi

Is there a way to pass multiple data to/from an external application, using the
External String widget? Similar to the HTTP GET/POST methods?

Ramón

Hi Ramón,

We're testing an extended external-widget implementation that supports the
approach described here (as well as a few other things):

https://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/wiki/XFormControlExtensionProposal

Once we finish testing, we'll submit back to the ODK community for
inclusion in Collect. Since we probably won't contribute it for another few
weeks, then the team will need to review and integrate, then Collect will
need to be updated... it could be a month or more before it's ready for
you. If you're a developer and are willing to help test the revisions, we
can share the sources earlier, so that you can integrate and start using
them yourself. If that's the case, please email me privately.

Best,

Chris

Hi Chris,

is it possible to open the browser with a specific URL with this extended
external-widget? There are 2 things I would like to do: Call an url out of
the collect application and call a defined from from the browser to open it
with collect on the phone. But I still haven't found a solution;-(

Hi Martin,

I presume that various browser apps support being called with external
intents, and the proposed extensions would allow the passing of a URL.
However, it's not clear what they would pass back.

Collect itself can be launched as a shortcut (e.g., for home-page
shortcuts), and maybe there's some way to launch Android shortcuts via a
browser -- but I have no idea. Maybe somebody else knows..?

Best,

Chris

Martin,

Nafundi will be adding the ability to launch URLs from Collect very
soon. Stay tuned...

Hi Yaw,

Many Thanks. That's real great news. Thanks for the information.

Perhaps you can answer another question: I want to use ODK collect together
with geographical information in a map. On this map I have markers. I can
start the google Navigation on the Android Device by a link in the marker:
"geo:0,0?q=(lat,lon)". For this definition Google Navigation opens on the
device. Could you imagine a way to start ODK in a way "odk:formname" to
open a defined form for a defined objekt in ODK collect by clicking the
link? That would make a dream come true;-)

Hi Martin,

Launching a form from the web sounds like it'd be a useful feature.
Please file a feature request at http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit
describing the functionality in detail and perhaps someone in the
community will build it. Alternatively, you can hire a developer at
http://opendatakit.org/help/help-for-hire to do it on contract.

Thanks,

Yaw
