Push forms to device

Hi,

Are there any plans to push forms from the server when it is
changed, without having the data collectors manually downloading the updated
version?

Thanks

Adah

Not for ODK Collect. With ODK Tables, there are plans for background
syncing of data (so that you can see the submissions of all of your peers).
A part of that capability will include the ability to detect and pull form
updates.

We have been monitoring the Google GCM technology lists for close to a year
now. That technology would enable a server to inform a device of an update.
However, there continue to be a surprising number of implementation
quirks. It is likely that we would implement a polling interval on the
device in addition to some form of GCM notifications, or perhaps some other
even-newer Google technologies.

Hi Mitch,

Just wondering if this is still the status in terms of pushing updated
forms?

Thanks,
Andrew

Hi,
RTA's Smart Survey supports this. If you want I can set you up with a demo.

Trung

Background updates remains a longer-term goal for the 2.0 tools (the Submit
project was an exploration of it). It is unlikely to be present in our
first release of the tools.

At this time, I would probably not base this upon GCM but would look at
other competing technologies.

There's discussion to add support for push notifications to Onadata, and Collect. MQTT has come up as an alternative to GCM/Firebase.

"With ODK Tables, there are plans for background
syncing of data (so that you can see the submissions of all of your peers)" @Mitch_S is there a specification on how the push messages should look like?

Hi,
has the push notification feature been added to OKD collect???

PlZ help
