Hello - I have been working with ODK for the past 3 weeks in Africa. I can
build forms and use relevant statements in both XLSform and ODK Build. I
have a colleague who has already built and created forms in REDCap is there
any way to convert his forms to xml so I can upload them for use in ODK
collect? I can code in SAS and STATA and some SQL . I have picked up a
little xml the past few weeks in learning to use ODK build and can review
my xml for errors, but that is the extent of my programming knowledge.
I am a beginner in using REDCap and ODK, I would like to know how to convert a form(instrument) designed in REDCap to xform (xlsform)? I know that in REDCap is possible to download the dictionary data.
Hello everyone,
I am new in REDcap but have done some simple data collection with ODK, I will like to do a bigger project were I will collect data through ODK forms and send them onto REDcap database.
Is thi doable?
I don't think there is an automated way to go from REDCap forms to ODK
forms. You'll have to recreate the forms (using XLSForm is likely your
best bet) or hire someone to do that work.

I do not know of any tool to do this. Has anyone in the community written
one?
ODK has the beginnings of a publisher to publish data into REDCap, but no
built-in support to create an ODK XForm from a REDCap instrument.
Publishing from ODK, however, requires that the REDCap receiver properly
parse HTTP headers. The last time I checked, the REDCap parsers expected
headers in a very specific order and did not tolerate headers sent in any
other ordering. Someone with connections to the REDCap development team
will need to fix that before the publisher we have will work. We are using
a generic library for constructing the requests being sent to the REDCap
server, but it is rejecting these because of that issue.

Do you know if one can re-convert ODK forms back to Excel spreadsheets
using XLSForm?
I know that you can use XLSForm to convert Excel sheets to ODK forms but am
trying to figure out if it is also reversible.
Thank you for your time & Best,
Erin

Hi everyone,
I was going through this posts and reading more on differonline on how to
publish from ODK aggregator onto REDcap but to no luck,
does anyone here have the step-by-step of doin this?

Hello Erin,
Just out of curiosity, isn't your goal to get redcap forms to ODK collect
XML? Not sure why you are asking about going the other way. I did an export
of the data dictionary in redcap to see what it looked like. My guess is
that it would take quite some programming to parse the XML or the CSV of
the redcap datadictionary into a compatible ODK collect form.

Hi Zambo, if you are interested in using REDCap why don't you use the
REDCap mobile app to perform mobile data collection ?

Redcap validates the data collected, and my boss would like to have a
wireless survey data collection tool that is compatible with
RedCap--therefore, I'm trying to find a way to both import the survey
format from RedCap to ODK and then upload the survey results from ODK to
RedCap.
I found that to upload the results from ODK to RedCap, we could use ODK
Aggregate to download the data into a .csv file--which I should be able to
convert to an excel .xls file and then upload to RedCap.
Does this process sound feasible?
Thank you for your time & Best,

Sounds painful and error prone. The cleanest approach is to build ODK
support into REDCap so it can generate and accept XForms on the fly.
It's functionality we discussed with the REDCap team ages ago, but it
never got traction.
