We are trying to use ODK in North Kivu (east DRC) and while I have got the
French forms to work, I am trying the use the translations feature to also
have the survey in Kiswahili, the local swahili dialect. The dialect is
significantly different to "standard" Swahili, and also has a lot of French
mixed in. When I load the survey on to the smart phones the ODK app tells
me it cannot read the form. I got the same message when I at first input
French language questions into English fields, so could this be because ODK
doesn't recognize Kivu Swahili as Swahili? If so, how can I get around
this?
If everything checks out, send us the form and we can take a look (NOTE: I
will be out of town next week).

ODK XForms don't "understand" languages - it's all Greek to them. ;-]
It must be some syntax error that's causing it to fail. Use OKD Validate to
verify.
P.S.
We're also doing some work on XForms for South Kivu.
