Thanks,

Hi all,
Similar question to the above but requiring a different answer. Is there a way to edit the text on the introductory page ("You are at the start of a form. When ready to begin, please click the Next button below or to the right. At the end, you will have the opportunity to submit your responses.")?
I am worried it won't be well understood in our self-administered survey with participants with weak literacy skills.
Thanks,
Wendy

I tested, but ODK Collect still in english, my local language is Indonesian. I did finalise the transifex odk-collect translation for Indonesian. Is there any way to use the finalised id string.xml in order ODK Collect change the language?
Alex
That wording is defined by the app, not by any form that you create for the
app. To change the language of the app, including the introductory page,
you need to change the system language of your phone. That is done in
Settings (for the phone, not in the app). The app has translations for many
different languages so there is a good chance that the language you need is
supported.

I looks like you discovered how to request a Hungarian translation. I have
accepted your request for translation, so you should now be able to provide
the Hungarian translations.
You can download "Locale More Pro" for Android "Locale More - Language
Setting" from WOW App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wowapp.localemorepro&hl=en
There is a manual setup step that you need to do on Android 4.2 and higher
devices in order to enable the setting of a locale using the app. That step
appears safe.
Once you do that step, you can then change to Nepali (or another
language/locale that is not supported by default)
I have built a version "rev 1046" of ODK Collect with the latest
translations (as of yesterday morning).
This is not on Google Play. You can download it here:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/opendatakit.downloads/ODK Collect v1.4.4 rev
1046.apk
I don't anticipate putting these on Google Play (waiting for several code
changes)

Bizarre. Created issue
http://code.google.com/p/opendatakit/issues/detail?id=1072
This is very strange. The locale app correctly switches to other
non-standard locales, but does not seem to switch to id (indonesian).
This might be an issue with this particular locale-change app, or it might
be an issue with the ODK Collect build.

Hi Mitch,
I saw that you created an issue and closed it a month and a half later, but I cannot seem to find the solution/resolution.
I am running into the same problem as described in the original post with ODK Collect 1.4.5 (1048). I set the phone's language to Bahasa Indonesia (Indonesian), and ODK Collect just shows English strings in the UI. I had expected the strings to be pulled from res/values-id/strings.xml
Was this problem solved, and I am just missing the solution somewhere?
Thanks for the help!
I re-opened the issue.
Two things to try:
--- First: confirming that it is an issue ---
(1) On your device's Settings / Apps screen, choose ODK Collect, and Force
Stop it.
(2) Change the locale to id
(3) Now open ODK Collect. Does it display Indonesian? (Hopefully not)
--- Second: testing a fix ---
Download the ODK Collect build here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7g-kLY9PNUDcXNIcDhMVDdLRDQ/view?usp=sharing
And install it on your device. You will need to enable installs from
untrusted sources, and may need to use the adb tool or open your browser to
the APK file to install it. Google for instructions.
Otherwise, can you investigate whether id is the appropriate locale for
Bahasa?

Bizarre. Created issue

Have you tried Mitch's suggestion? You can download "Locale More Pro" for Android "Locale More -
Language Setting" from WOW App
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wowapp.localemorepro&hl=en
There is a manual setup step that you need to do on Android 4.2 and
higher devices in order to enable the setting of a locale using the
app. That step appears safe.
Once you do that step, you can then change to Nepali (or another
language/locale that is not supported by default)

Hi Mitch,
I have thankfully found the source of the problem. As described here:
the Indonesian language folder needs to be renamed from 'values-id' to 'values-in' due to an idiosyncrasy of the Java language. I built ODK Collect with Eclipse ADT after changing the folder name to 'values-in' and the UI shows the Indonesian strings for me when the phone has Indonesian selected as the language.
Hope that helps. And a heads up for when you expand to Hebrew and Yiddish
