Unable to upload PDF files on Kobotoolbox

  1. What is the issue? Please be detailed.

The issue is that when deploying forms using an instance of Kobotoolbox on your own server, or even the free version you are unable to include PDF files as part of the media. This limitation makes it challenging to deploy certain content to users, particularly PDFs which are not supported for upload. This poses a problem as attaching images of converted PDFs may not be a user-friendly solution due to limitations like the inability to zoom in.

2. What steps can we take to reproduce this issue?

To reproduce the issue:

Attempt to deploy a form using Kobotoolbox on your server.
Include a PDF file as part of the media for the form.
Notice that Kobotoolbox does not support uploading PDF files as media.

3. What have you tried to fix the issue?

Searched for solutions within the Kobocollect/ODK community.
Explored alternative methods for deploying PDF content, such as converting PDFs to images.
Investigated whether there are any settings or configurations within Kobotoolbox that can be adjusted to enable PDF support, although it appears that none have been found so far.

Can you add PDF's as part of the media when deploying forms via ODK Central to ODK Collect?

In general, it's helpful if you can ask a question in terms of the need that you have. It sounds like you are using ODK Collect, you have reference image data that is large, and you want data collectors to be able to pan and zoom on while filling out their forms? Have you looked at big-image? If that won't satisfy your need, please describe in more detail what the underlying goal is.
