Upcoming changes to our community

The Open Data Kit project was started to make mobile data collection tools for resource-limited settings. Over the last 13 years, the project has produced two tool suites (ODK, ODK-X), and in the process, has become home to a large community of users, implementers and developers.

To give ODK and ODK-X more autonomy, the suites will be moving to separate websites with separate governance. We’ll be retiring the use of the “Open Data Kit” brand and have formed a new and broader umbrella organization, Data Software For Social Good, to ensure continued collaboration among the data software for social good ecosystem. We'll have more on this later.

The changes we are making will go live on Monday, April 20th. We expect minimal disruption to the community, but we are sending out this message to provide advance notice to everyone.

Hope you are all doing well during this challenging time, and as always, if you have any questions or comments, please leave them below.

Good to know!

Will the ODK logo go too? Would be important to prepare on how to transition field teams on how the app will "look like"

ODK will use the same logo and ODK-X will get a similar logo with an X added.

I expect there will be logo changes at some point in the future. If and when that happens, you'll have plenty of warning.
