Volunteers Needed for Data Management Strategy in Nigeria

My name is Salawu Oluwatoyin, a graduate student at Harvard Extension School, currently completing my capstone project in Global Development Practice. As part of this project, I am consulting for JIGI, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) based in Nigeria.

JIGI works in low-resource and underserved communities, delivering programs across Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH), health services, veterinary interventions, education, and capacity building. However, the organization currently lacks a structured and consistent approach to data collection, management, and use across its diverse projects.

To address this, I am developing a comprehensive Development Plan (DP) that includes the design of an innovative, practical, and context-appropriate data management system. A key component of this strategy is the use of ODK (Open Data Kit) for mobile data collection and field integration.

We are currently seeking ODK developers who can volunteer with us to build and implement this data system. Ideal candidates should have:

Experience designing and deploying ODK-based tools in low-resource or field settings

Ability to create user-friendly digital forms and workflows

Understanding of data validation, offline data capture, and syncing processes

Familiarity with integrating ODK Collect with platforms like ODK Central or Aggregate

Commitment to creating simple, secure, and scalable solutions

If you're interested in contributing to a meaningful, development-focused project and helping an NGO transition toward being data-driven, please reach out. This is a great opportunity to apply your technical skills to real-world impact in underserved communities.

Kindly reach out on ols852@g.harvard.edu

Thank you.
