XForm Conversion - Maybe a silly question but

Hello

I'm a complete newbie working with ODK for the first time, having been asked to set up a research project on behalf of a student. I've been given a test .xls file to use which is already coded but how do you convert it into XForm format? Followed the link to XLSForm on the ODK website, submitted it for conversion but then what? How do you save the converted file for use with ODK? The questionnaire opens up fine in the browser through enketo but when I choose download I just get a lot of coded jargon appearing on screen?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mark,

Once you have the XLS and XML, you need to decide what server platform
you'd like to use. If you are using Ona or Kobo, you can upload the
XLS directly to their server. If you are using ODK Aggregate or
SurveyCTO, you can upload the XML.

Once that's done, point your phone to the appropriate server to
download the form, fill out the data, and send the data back to the
server.

Just FYI, SurveyCTO takes .xls directly as well! (It seems slightly
barbaric to have to convert between formats manually.)
