I'm curious if any other ODKers out there have began testing Google's
recent tool, 'Google Data Studio
https://www.google.com/analytics/360-suite/resources/featured/product-overview-data-studio-360.html'
and its capabilities when matched with ODK Aggregate (specifically deployed
on google app engine). I've done some preliminary tests, and find it very
promising. The ability to publish existing, and stream new submission, data
from ODK aggregate directly to Google Spreadsheets makes the combination of
Google Data Studio and an ODK Aggregate deployed on app engine a
potentially very low cost real time data dashboard which could be used for
any number of purposes. Perhaps most notably, I found the learning curve to
design the dashboards to very accessible. I also find the prospect of
linking various levels of data collection (for example an individual level
tool, a household level tool, and a group level tool, and a community level
tool) and have their results automatically compile in a usable dashboard to
be very compelling.
I quickly (in less than a day) created a 3 page dashboard for a 7 country
survey that spanned 4 years -- I was happy with the overall data usability
and data visualization (there are still areas which google can improve in
data studio, but for a Beta -- I was impressed).
My questions to this community are:
- Has anyone explored this tool yet? - if so what has been your
experience?
- Does anyone envision concerns with the link between publishing from
aggregate to google sheets -- which is what Google Data Studio uses?
- Those of you more familiar with Google products than I am -- do you
have an idea how they may price this product (Google Data Studio) moving
forward once it is out of Beta?

NOTE: ODK Collect 1.4.9, the most recent release, supports direct
publishing into Google Sheets.

Hi Carlos,
I haven't done recent work with it, but have a few colleagues who have had success linking to MS PowerBI (via Kobo Toolbox).
With the capability to live stream to google sheets now its definitely a bit easier in theory, but I think creating complex dashboards would still remain difficult. For basic summaries it should be straight forward.
